Being Active for
Management Trainees.

The demographic development and its results are covered in the news and in public discussions almost every day. So many things have already been said – some of them were important and correct and some of them not – therefore further discussions would be redundant at this point.

At the same time, we have known for years that jobs requiring little skill and expertise cannot be maintained in Germany on the long term. Outsourcing jobs to foreign countries has already happened several times and this trend will continue in the future.

And it is here where the actual disaster of this development becomes apparent. Not only does our society “produce” too few children. It is much more threatening that we afford ourselves the luxury of a high percentage of students who are released to life each school year without adequate certificates. And it is even worse to realize that highly talented graduates do not study “hard” subjects, but either goes abroad, does not study at all or chooses subject combinations that only add little value to economy.

At the same time, however, it is again and again evident that Germany has indeed a competitive advantage when it plays on its strengths, i.e. its expertise as well as personal characteristics such as reliability.

The logical deduction of this is that Germany will only be able to maintain its top position as a leading export nation (and per capita of the population our efficiency is excellent) if we are able to repeatedly introduce a sufficient number of young experts to professional life who have enjoyed the best education and training and are willing to perform.

You can only be successful in a subject you love. However, we have analyzed that the cause for such a decision (and the general refusal to pursue a course of study) lies within the fact that working in industrial companies is seriously misrepresented. Quite often the distorted picture is produced that politics overrides performance, intrigues override values, show overrides results and egocentricity overrides team play. We all know that the reality in companies is not perfect at all. However, it is much better than it is represented by the distorted picture in public. And this is exactly where the Comites e.V. has found its dedication and has defined its task.
